According to reliable sources, it looks like ISO9001:2009 will be the next revision. The ISO Quality Standard has been undergoing much debate over how much to change it, and what kind of changes to make. There was a lot of speculation that 2008 would be the year, but it has been delayed until, most likely, 2009.

The last revision came at the very end of 2008, and it wasn’t much of a revision. There were no new requirements, only clarifications of the existing requirements. It was 8 years (almost 9) since the 2000 revision. I think we’ve got another 4 or 5 years at least before we see the next revision to the ISO9001 quality standard.

It hasn’t been announced, but given that the last revisions were 1994, 2000, then 2008, I wouldn’t expect another revision until 2014 or 2015.
