Addressing risks and opportunities in ISO9001:2015

The 2015 revision of the ISO9001 quality management standard contains some new requirements. One of the new requirements is that the quality management system must determine the risks and opportunities that need to be addressed, and we must also plan actions to address those risks and opportunities.

Preventive actions are no longer required under the new standard. However preventive actions are one way companies can deal with risks. After all, what are risks other than potential problems that have not yet happened?

Of course, the ISO9001:2015 standard does not mandate how we are to deal with risks and opportunities. We are free to deal with them in any manner we see fit, as long as our methods are effective and make our auditor happy.
